Practice Based Commissioning

Enabling best practice in diabetes management through design and delivery of high quality educational packages.

Much is happening that is positive in today’s NHS: The Quality Outcomes Framework  (QOF) attempts to address to some of the variability of care across the UK and although possibly flawed in some respects, particularly with the temptation for ‘brainless target hitting’ with disregard for the individual, their own circumstance and their quality of life and an inability to take into account the pro’s and con’s of aggressive risk management, largely it is to be applauded.

Practice Based Commissioning offers an opportunity for services to re-configure. Those that truly need to receive their care in a Primary Care setting will do so. Those whose care needs dictate they should be supported in Secondary Care services, likewise will do so. Clearly there will also be a number of patients who move between the two.

It is evident that there are varying degrees of training requirement by Primary Care and BetaPresentations can address these diabetes specific needs. Educational programmes will be agreed with Commissioners and aim to achieve the following:

  • Increase skills and knowledge base within Primary Care services.
  • Raise the standard of Primary Care based diabetes management.
  • Achieve a measurable reduction in referral to secondary care services and so achieve Primary Care cost savings.
